Confidentiality

Confidentiality refers to the nature of the therapist-client relationship. This is an important component of our code of ethics as therapists. Anything mentioned during session remains between you and me. This also includes any records or notes I might keep. This helps to create a space where you as the client feel able to share things without fear of having the information passed on to others. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule.

As an associate, I am under the supervision of another professional. I have weekly supervision meetings with my supervisor Mary Deggelman (LMFT#57438) in which we discuss my work. This enables me to receive guidance and become a better professional. These meetings are focused on my work as the therapist and not the content of our sessions.

As a mental health professional, I am a mandated reporter. This means that I am required by law to report any instances of child abuse, dependent adult abuse, or elder abuse that might be shared with me. This will be done in a non-judgmental manner. It is also possible that your records may be requested of me by the courts. In this case, I will comply only with a subpoena and will share the minimum amount of information possible so as to limit the damage to our therapist-client relationship.

If you have questions about confidentiality, please feel free to contact me for a consultation and we can discuss whatever your questions might be.
